The party will be outdoors in Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park after normal park hours. Park admission is not required to attend. Plan for a short walk from the drop-off point to the venue. The evening will be low on formality and high on fun. Please RSVP (even if you have already told us you're coming) by August 9!
Bus transportation will be provided between our four recommended hotels and the party, with pickups on this schedule and return trips at the bottom of every hour. Because this is an after-hours event, private vehicles will not be granted access to the park and the provided transportation is the only means of getting to the party. Please let us know if you would like to have a wheelchair available for the half-mile walk from the drop-off to the venue.
Attire is theme park chic (which is to say, dressy casual). There will be a fair amount of walking and late nights in Orlando can be warm and humid, so you should prioritize comfort. Jackets are optional (Grant doesn’t plan on wearing one). If you wear heels, you should also bring flats. We strongly recommend avoiding anything long enough to drag on the ground. Please don't wear anything that you can't dance in or get a little dirty!
Food will be served all night long in an extended cocktail party, with new courses at the bottom of every hour. Even without a sit-down meal, there will be more than enough food for dinner, so come hungry!
No gifts, please. In lieu of gifts, please consider donating to Reach Out & Read.
In keeping with Hilburn tradition, we are assembling a family cookbook to serve as a guestbook, and everyone is encouraged to contribute. Old family recipes, new favorites, and funny cooking stories are all welcome!
The nearest airport is Orlando (MCO). Orlando Sanford (SFB) is also relatively convenient, but is slightly farther and offers fewer ground transportation options. We do not recommend a rental car for most guests staying on the grounds, as Disney’s transportation within the property is excellent. Those staying in a Disney-operated hotel can also book reservations on Disney's Magical Express, a free shuttle service to and from the airport.
Disney hotels cover a wide range of styles, with many incorporating intricate and fun themes, and it's worth exploring to find one that suits your party. All offer transportation to the parks, with some offering Skyliner, Monorail, or boat service in addition to buses.
Demand for rooms the weekend of the wedding is already very high and we recommend booking early. We have set aside blocks at three hotels, mostly for Friday and Saturday nights. To obtain the discounted rate, available through August 9 or until exhausted, please book through the room block links below or call 407-827-6799 and ask for the Hilburn & Elliott Wedding. To plan an extended stay at a room in our block beyond the nights that are available, please use the phone option. If you book any nights at a Disney-operated hotel outside of the block, please let us know.
Our favorite hotel on the property and our personal choice for the weekend, the lodge offers rooms overlooking animal-filled savannas (look for “savanna view” rooms).
This Catalan modernism inspired hotel (described as “tower” rooms at Coronado Springs) is new and very comfortable.
This trio of hotels is operated by Mariott, but located on the Walt Disney World property, with boat service and walking access to Epcot and Hollywood Studios in addition to bus service throughout the property. Discounts are available for annual passholders, Florida residents, seniors over 62, first responders, and medical personnel.
This hotel has light-hearted, whimsical theming, with recently renovated rooms.
While park admission is not necessary to attend the party, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the unique offerings on the property. If you haven't visited Disney theme parks since you were a kid, you're likely to be surprised, with Animal Kingdom and Epcot in particular offering experiences aimed at adults. In addition to the four theme parks, the property also hosts water parks, golf courses, and spas.
We've prepared some tips for planning your weekend:
You'll need a Disney account for most plans. We recommend installing the MyDisneyExperience app, though many arrangements can also be made on the Walt Disney World website.
You can purchase discounted park tickets through the link below or by calling 407-827-6799. Tickets are available for one or several days, with or without the ability to switch parks within a day (“park hop”).
Under the new Park Pass system implemented in 2020, guests must have both a ticket and a reservation for the park they plan on entering first each day. You can get Park Passes through the MyDisneyExperience app or by following the link below. As demand is likely to be high the weekend of our event, we recommend getting your Park Passes early!
Dining reservations for hotel and park restaurants can be made 60 days in advance (plus the length of your hotel stay if at a Disney-operated hotel). We anticipate that reservations will be necessary for many of the restaurants, notably including dinner at Be Our Guest in the Magic Kingdom or drinks at Oga's Cantina in Hollywood Studios. Alternatively, quick service options abound and do not require reservations. The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival will also be running during our weekend and ordering small bites at the country kiosks around World Showcase can easily replace all of a day's meals. There will also be plenty of food at the party Saturday night.
Nighttime entertainment is returning, with brand new shows at Magic Kingdom and Epcot. For the best spots, you'll want to claim a space in the hub or around World Showcase Lagoon about an hour in advance, but reasonably good viewing is usually still available about fifteen minutes before showtime.
The newly-opened Remy's Ratatouille Adventure in Epcot has no regular line and instead requires obtaining a Boarding Group on the day of your visit. Boarding Groups are made available on the MyDisneyExperience app every morning at 7:00AM, with additional groups released at 1:00PM. These are typically exhausted quickly. Rise of the Resistance in Hollywood Studios, which until very recently used the virtual queue system, now offers a normal standby queue instead.
The new Genie planning system, available through the MyDisneyExperience app, will launch October 19. With it will come a number of purchasable options for reducing wait times. (This only affects wait times; no attraction requires an additional purchase beyond your park admission.) As this is a brand new system, unfortunately we have no experience with it, but we’re still happy to offer whatever assistance we can.
We know this can all be a little overwhelming. Everyone is encouraged (but by no means required) to fill out the last page of the RSVP form, regarding your park interests. If you're unfamiliar with the parks or have any questions, please reach out to us, so we can help you plan your weekend. Best man Tucker Elliott has generously offered to provide suggested itineraries.
We'll likely spend Friday morning in Hollywood Studios, Friday evening in Epcot, and Saturday morning in Animal Kingdom. Say hello if you see us!
A castle park, similar to the original Disneyland, the Magic Kingdom offers fantasy escapism and classic Disney characters, and is a great choice for those with younger children.
Designed to resemble a perpetual World's Fair, Epcot focuses on discovery, technology, and culture. World Showcase will be hosting a food festival throughout our event weekend. Future World is currently under substantial construction.
Originally a showcase for movie-making, Hollywood Studios now also offers immersive lands based on Star Wars and Toy Story.
With animal-filled walking trails and a safari tour, Animal Kingdom explores zoology and conservation. It also hosts an immersive land based on Avatar.
